SOLSTICE: Reflections on Winter Light is an annual light show celebrating the shortest, darkest day of the year illuminated by an array of interactive light and sound installations created by artists at MASARY Studios and executed by AVFX. Mount Auburn Cemetery hosts the event featuring an outdoor journey through large-scale light and sound artworks. Guests are invited to walk through the light-filled landscape and explore the Winter Solstice atmosphere and reflect on moments of change as 2022 ended, and a new cycle begins. Guests became part of the landscape, considered an intention for the new year, or commemorated the memory of a loved one.
MASARY is an artist collective that makes multisensory and interactive art pieces. AVFX is an event technology company supporting meeting planners, event producers, and exhibit designers.
The installation was conceived over several months and executed on twelve nights over several weeks in December. By the last day, December 21st, more than 8,300 people had attended SOLSTICE — exceeding all expectations.
