Namaste — PechaKucha

“Who Am I?” was the team-building activity our client used to engage the audience. Each presenter described a member of their team and the audience tried to guess which of their colleagues was being introduced. They responded via live polling with their best guesses.

The style of presentation used during this exercise is called PechaKucha in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each. The format, which keeps presentations concise and fast-paced, powers multiple-speaker events and contributes to great energy and terrific engagement. (Wikipedia: PechaKucha is Japanese for chit-chat) This technique allows the audience to focus on listening—not reading slides.

AVFX was selected to provide audio visual services for this international leadership conference at the Westin Waterfront in Boston. 250 senior managers from around the world attended the three-day meeting with the goal of integrating global supply chain operations.

Our client wanted a presentation that was big and bold enough to grab the audience and hold their attention from the opening session to the closing remarks. He knew the 180 brilliant LED panels—formatted 10ft high by 50ft—would be beautiful and they were.

Chair Yoga
was the other unusual component of the meeting. The benefits of this practice are interesting.

  • Reduce healthcare costs by focusing proactively on wellness and prevention
  • Boost employee morale and support sustainable productivity in a sometimes stressful environment
  • Inspire creativity and teamwork by introducing a new office-wide activity
  • Attract good talent with a competitive benefits package that recognizes the importance of balance in and out of work

We have seen yoga practiced during other conferences, but our lighting department took this opportunity to give the room a truly spiritual glow.
